Kismet Lola: 4Ever Heirloom Workshop

Back in January I booked myself in for one of Kismet Lola’s 4Ever Heirloom workshops to make a bespoke and unique ring for myself.

Using jewellers wax, Kismet led us through a workshop detailing her process, taking us through techniques to mould, carve and shape the wax, as well as detailing the different plating, finishes and gems we could incorporate as part of our final design.

Not going to lie, I spent the first part of the workshop in a state of overwhelm and panic, completely overthinking what I wanted and how I was going to get there in the two hour workshop. But once I decided to frame it differently for myself - to let the ring reveal itself to me as part of the process, rather than shape it to what I felt it should be - I found it an incredibly meditative practice.

I’m really pleased with the result, and I love my chunky, geometric ring. I get so much pride out if the fact I made it myself, and it makes me so happy whenever I get compliments on it.

You spend around 2 hours or so carving the wax, after which you are separated from your wax mould, and we let Kismet know or desired finishes.

Then, three weeks later - it came home - a ring of my own design.

I haven’t take it off since I made it, and I think it would be such a lovely activity for a group of friends to do.

You can also order postal kits, to do it remotely - I'm tempted to get a group together on zoom of some out-of-town friends, so we can create them together.
