Ly Painter Interview: In Collaboration with Avant Arte
Avant Arte have brought contemporary Japanese artist LY to London for the first time for her show, Living with Luv, which is on from 16-18th June at the Dray Walk Gallery.
LY is incredibly popular in Japan for her depictions of her character LUV and the world she has created around her.
The connection between the artist and her character is blurred and her work represents much of her own personal journey through her twenties to motherhood and beyond. I was lucky enough to chat with Ly at the opening yesterday.
Erin Niimi Longhurst: Could you tell us a bit more about the collection we have here today, and how it came to be?
This exhibition is for the three-dimensional work that I made together with Avant Arte, so I thought it would be really cute to display the original work and the new work together.
I also wanted to show the background of the story [of LUV] that inspired the new work, along with the paintings for a new audience to understand.
ENL: How does it feel to be showcasing your work in London for the first time?
I am very happy to be showing my work in London for the first time! This neighbourhood is full of people who love art, and it would make me really happy if people come across my work, and it moves people, or inspires them to think about the story behind it.
The Living with LUV pop up is here in London 16-18 June at the Drays Walk Gallery in Shoreditch, and admission is free. They are showcasing three new limited editions by LY + original works - be sure not to miss it! Find out more from Avant Arte directly here.
