Wisteria Hysteria + New Book News!
Everything seems a little bit more joyful this time of year - look at all the flowers in bloom! How lucky are we?
It becomes so much easier to walk the dog when the weather is like this. Anyone who lives with a dachshund can relate, but with their short little legs, they don’t like to get their bellies wet - which in London, is a risk you take every time you leave the house, whether or not you’re walking on all fours or not.
I’m an all-weather cyclist in London, but it was an absolute joy to glide across London Bridge last week for a very exciting meeting with the team at HarperCollins, to discuss BOOK THREE! It feels incredibly surreal. Was going to make a little joke there about how the third book in the series would be called ‘The Return of the King’, but that another HarperCollins author did that already…
Can’t talk about the book too much, at this stage, other than the fact that, all being well, it should be hitting shelves September 2024. The trickiest thing I’ve found about writing a book is how not to talk about it. It’s the first thing anyone asks, and if you’re lucky enough to be surrounded by thoughtful people then they’ll want to know what it’s all about. Then they start giving you suggestions, or tell you what topics they find passé, and the next time you sit down to write all you can think of is what so-and-so thought, rather than get your own thoughts down on paper. If anyone else can relate, then I give you permission to act thoughtful and mysterious whenever anyone asks what you’re working on. Best case scenario, they will think you are a spy and leave you alone.
In the meantime, I’ll be trying to pick up projects here and there to keep the wolves from the door. Taking the time to pursue this has felt simultaneously freeing and the most terrifying thing. Being a writer is perhaps the most selfish thing anyone can do in this economy, really, but if I don’t give it my all now then I’ll probably regret it forever.
If anyone has any freelance storytelling or content help they need, then holla at yo’ girl!
