Katsute 100, Brick Lane

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be invited to the opening of Katsute 100’s new location on Brick Lane. The original outpost has a strong place in my heart, as we hosted the official launch of my first book at the Islington location, and I did a talk on tea ceremony there, too.

So I’m really excited about their new Brick Lane location - Shoreditch is my stomping ground, and I used to live less than five minutes away from their new spot.

My favourite part about the new location is the tatami room, where we were served the most delicious matcha.

I also loved being able to introduce one of my oldest friends to the delights of gyokuro, and which included eating the tea leaves, really capturing the spirit of mottainai like I talk about in Omoiyari, my second book.

The cakes and sweets are absolutely incredible, too and autumn is such a perfect time for Montblanc, a creamy chestnut cake.

I was gifted with some lovely teas and a new chasen, which I've been making use of ever since!

Have you ever been to a Japanese tearoom?

I was kindly invited to Katsute 100.
