Under The Tree: A Sake Discovery Box from Sorakami

Shared in partnership with Sorakami.

I love the festive season. The general free rein you are given to be overly indulgent with yourselves and your loved ones is something I look forward to every year. I adore the ceremony of it all – decorating the tree, the wrapping (and unwrapping) of gifts, the careful consideration we put into what we’re eating – and, of course, drinking.

My friends at Sorakami have put together the most thoughtful discovery box for those uninitiated to the world of sake. In partnership with the Kikuchi Sake Brewing Company, which is based in Okayama, this gift really is such a great entryway to sake for those who might not have experienced it before.

Complete with tasting notes and a handy introduction guide, the Sake Discovery Box features the following three award-winning sakes.

• Sanzen Tokubetsu Junmai Omachi (300ml)

• Kiseki No Osake Junmai Ginjo Omachi (300ml)

• Sanzen Junmai Daiginjo (300ml)

In keeping with the general festive spirit, I decided to pair each of these with a traditional Christmas canapé that you might already have this time of year, because the world of sake shouldn’t just be limited to one type of cuisine!

I paired the Sanzen Tokubetsu Junmai Omachi with one of my favourite appetisers – pigs in blankets.

For the Kiseki No Osake,  I decided to complement this refreshing sake with a lightly breaded prawn canapé, and finishing off the box with a mince pie – the astringency serving to balance out the sweetness of the mincemeat.

Make sure you get your orders in before the 20th, and let me know if you try those pairings! If you pop the code “ERIN” in at checkout, you can get 10% off your own sake discovery box, too.
